Thursday evening Marje's family arrived from Estonia to spend Easter holiday here in Finland but also to help us with clearing the land with trees. We where lucky that also that day our new chainsaw arrived so we didn't need to rent one. Vahto (Marje's uncle) took also his chainsaw with him. Friday morning early we went to the land and unfortunately the start was not so good. It was raining so the first 2 hours or so where not that productive. It was good that we could borrow John and Eva's house so we had a place to shelter for the time being. Around 11:30-12:00 the rain was disappearing and work started. Taisto and Marje's mother joined us also. Taisto brought also his chainsaw so in total 3 chainsaws where used. Work was going fast and at the end of the day a lot of trees where taken down. Everyone knew what to do and Andrus and Vahto where doing a great job by taken the trees down exactly on the place where they planned it. The rest of us where carrying the cut logs to the right place or putting the garbage wood to the fire.
The next day we went back again to cut some more trees and clean a little bit more the land. Because it was now quit dry no big fire was made so no chance of forest fire was there. The next day was also going great and by the end of Saturday the work was done. We where expecting that around 40 big trees had to be taken down but now we are guessing it is more then 50 trees. On the land now there are 7 big piles of logs which can be used in the future in the fireplace.
We think it will be enough wood for at least 5 years but it will take quit some time to cut them. During the days quit many pictures have been taken and a selection can be found under land clearing pictures. The land looks great and we have an idea now how it all will come together.
Saturday evening was a bit of celebrating because Janika and Marje's mother will have their birthday coming week so it was a good time to also celebrate that but also that the work was done. Because 2nd Easter day is not a holiday in Estonia Sunday everyone went back to Estonia.
We want to say a very big thank you to Vahto, Mare, Tönis, Andrus, Janika, Liisa, Taisto and Tiiu. We love you all very much!
Also big thanks to John and Eva for borrowing their place. It was very helpful.
